The upcoming mega auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to take place in November, where several new rules may be introduced. In this auction, all 10 franchises will build completely new teams. During the two-day process, the franchises will pick their desired players. However, each team will have the opportunity to retain some of their previous players before the auction.
Each franchise can retain a maximum of six players, with at least one of them being a domestic (Indian) player. Teams can choose to retain fewer than six players if they wish, and during the auction, they will have the option to use a Right to Match (RTM) card to bring back their previous players.
To retain the first-choice player, it will cost ₹18 crore.
For the second-choice player, it will cost ₹14 crore.
For the third-choice player, ₹11 crore will be required.
The fourth-choice player will once again cost ₹18 crore.
Retaining the fifth-choice player will cost ₹14 crore.
Retaining a domestic player will cost ₹4 crore.
There is no specific number of domestic or foreign players required for retention, meaning franchises can choose their own balance of domestic and foreign players. Players who retired from international cricket five years ago will be considered domestic players, which could offer strategic advantages for the teams.
Franchises are required to submit their list of retained players by October 31. Some teams have already started revealing their preliminary lists, and the finalization process is ongoing.
